AICTE Swanath Scholarship Scheme (2026-27)
The Swanath Scholarship Scheme is an initiative by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to provide financial assistance to students who have faced significant life challenges. The scheme aims to empower these students to pursue higher education and build a successful future.
Eligible Categories
Scholarships are available to students from the following categories:
- Orphans.
- Wards of parents who lost their lives due to COVID-19.
- Wards of Armed Forces or Central Paramilitary Forces personnel martyred in action (Shaheed).
Students whose parent(s) are suffering from critical/life-threatening diseases (e.g., Cancer) or were severely disabled (above 80% disability) in an accident
Key Scholarship Benefits
- Financial Grant: A lump sum of ₹50,000 per annum is provided to cover college fees, purchase of laptops, software, books, stationery, and other educational equipment.
- Duration: Valid for the duration of the course (maximum 4 years for Degree; maximum 3 years for Diploma).
- Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): The scholarship amount is transferred directly to the student’s bank account via DBT.

Eligibility Criteria
- Course: Must be enrolled in a regular Degree or Diploma level course in an AICTE-approved institution.
- Family Income: Total annual family income from all sources must not exceed ₹8 Lakh. A valid Income Certificate issued by a competent State/UT Government authority is mandatory.
- Exclusivity: The student must not be receiving any other central or state government scholarship.
Application Procedure (Mandatory Steps)
All applications must be processed through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
- OTR (One Time Registration): Candidates must first complete the OTR process on the National Scholarship Portal.
- Aadhaar Requirement: The student’s Aadhaar number is mandatory for this scheme. Your bank account must be Aadhaar-seeded (linked to your Aadhaar for DBT) to ensure successful disbursement.
- Submission: Apply online on the NSP portal during the active application window.
- Verification: Applications are verified at two levels: first by your home institution and then by the Department of Technical Education (DTE) of your respective State/UT.
Documents to Upload (As per category)
- Identity & Category: Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) and AADHAR card.
- Specific Evidence:
- For Orphans: Death certificates of parents or a certificate issued by a Tehsildar/SDM.
- For Covid-19 impact: Death certificate explicitly mentioning COVID-19.
- For Armed/Paramilitary Forces: “Shaheed” certificate issued by the respective force.
- For Critical Illness: Medical certificate from a government hospital/Chief Medical Officer.
- Academic/Financial: Current year Income Certificate, Bonafide Certificate from your institution, and previous qualifying mark sheets (Class 10/12).
Important Notes
- Renewal: The scholarship is renewable annually. Students must submit their promotion certificate and a new Bonafide Certificate via the NSP portal each year.
- Performance: Students must remain enrolled and promote to the next academic level to retain eligibility.
- Deadline: The application cycle typically closes on October 31st. Early application is strongly recommended.
