
NIRBHAYA Self-Defense Workshop Organised at Aryans Group of Colleges on International Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh, organised a special “NIRBHAYA – Self Defense Workshop” at its campus with the aim of empowering girl students with awareness, confidence and practical self-defense skills. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students who actively learned various techniques to ensure their safety and confidence in challenging situations.
The event was graced by Mr. Vivek Thakur, International Judo Coach, State Awardee and Commonwealth Silver Medalist, who attended the workshop as the Special Guest and encouraged the students to stay strong, confident and fearless.
Renowned martial arts players Mehak Singh, Angel Yadav, Navroop, and Saniya Rai were present during the workshop and demonstrated several important self-defense techniques. Students were trained in basic defense moves, escape techniques and situational awareness which can help them protect themselves during emergencies.
Mehak Singh, Bronze Medalist in Senior Asian Cup 2025-26 Taipei and Gold Medalist in All India Inter-University & Khelo India University Games 2025-26 Rajasthan, inspired students with her achievements and practical demonstrations. Angel Yadav, Bronze Medalist in Senior Asian Cup 2024-25 Hong Kong and 10 times National Gold Medalist, also guided the students with effective defense strategies.
Navroop, Bronze Medalist in Junior Asian Cup 2025-26 Macau and Junior National Gold Medalist, along with Saniya Rai, who secured 5th place in Senior Asian Cup 2024-25 Kazakhstan and is a National Bronze Medalist (Joint BSF – Border Security Force under sports quota), demonstrated multiple self-defense techniques and motivated the students to stay strong and fearless.
During the session, students actively practiced the techniques and learned how to respond confidently in difficult situations. The workshop also focused on women safety awareness, confidence building and the importance of staying alert in public spaces.
The event concluded with the message “Fearless Women, Safe Society”, encouraging girls to be confident, aware and self-reliant.
