Aryans College of Law hosted a webinar discussing the value of legal drafting skills.

Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, near Chandigarh, hosted a webinar on “Legal Drafting: A Crucial skill” to help law students improve their writing. Mrs. Maheshwari Mohan, Founder, Co- Draft, Academy of Law Chennai, was the keynote speaker. The webinar was hosted by Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman of the Aryans Group.

In her conversation with the students, Maheshwari stated that in the legal profession, we need to be able to accurately translate our ideas into written form. The primary tool used by the legal profession is language. Words are used by politicians, judges, attorneys, and others to enlighten, advocate, and dispute. She explained that having strong writing abilities is therefore a crucial part of every lawyer’s toolkit.

She added that although mastering legal drafting requires time and practice, having strong writing abilities is essential for success and that there are steps you can do to make your writing better. When drafting, keep in mind your audience, organize your writing, be concise, use action words, utilize active voice, and edit ruthlessly, she advised, because people take the time to read your work.

 In response to the students’ inquiries, she stated that while legal writing requires practice, a great deal may be learnt just by reading the writings of others who are proficient in the field. The greatest way to get better at writing legal documents is to practice every day. According to her, the more you write, the better your legal writing abilities will get.
